How Are Costumes Used To Enhance The Story

1: blue/ whites, all look the same, many people, faded-over wash/ wear, old clothing, girls: hair braided, boys: combed/ short, all girls wear dresses/ skirts, all boys wear collared shirts.

2: bright colours, long hair, always have hair accessories, fancy suits, over the top makeup, long dresses, high end good quality, clean clothing, everyone's unique

3: tributes wear jackets, pants, running shoes, t-shirt, colours are black, orange, grays, camouflage,  everyone looks the same (apart from size).

Costumes are used effectively to show the imbalance between rich and poor, the Capital and District 12, in Panam. For instance, this is seen in the reaping scene where the figure of Effie Trinket is juxtaposed to those of District 12. in this scene the children of District 12 are wearing dull/ faded simple clothes while Effie wears a vibrant pink outfit with an extravagant wig and over the top make-up. this makes us understand how unwealthy the people of District 12 are to the Capitol. the purpose of this is to show that life in all the Districts is not as hard as it is in District 12. Coinciding with this is the use of setting in district 12. Everything is run down and old but in the capitol everything is new clean and colourful. the costumes in the reaping scene can be juxtapose to the clothes worn citizens of the capital.
