DOC (department of conservation) is trying to restore New Zealand to its formal beauty.

They show kaitiakitanga by:

  1. getting rid of pests that may harm or destroy our native plants and animals.
  2. replanting native plants and breeding native and endangered animals.
  3. etc
They show Sustainability by:
  1. protecting native plants and animals
  2. restoring New Zealand to it's native beauty
  3. etc
they show Rahui Tapu by:
  1. Adding restrictions to animals that are killed.
  2. having restrictions to fish that are caught their size and amount.
  3. etc

Quail Island


  1. what does the name Otamahua mean and where does it come from? Place where children collect sea eggs, Maori

  3. How big is Quail Island? 80 hectors
  4. How was Quail Island made? Volcanic Eruption
  5. what animals live on the island? Rabbits, black-backed/karoro, red-billed gull/tarāpunga, white-flippered penguins/kororā, terns, shags, oyster-catchers, Fantails/pīwakawaka and grey warblers/ iroriro
  6. What did they gather from Quail Island? eggs, fish, etc
  7. How has introduced Species damaged the environment? rabbits eating native plants, rats ate the bird eggs
  8. What rules has DOC created to protect Quail Island? no going of the track, no dogs, no fires, no animals, no taking Wild life, No littering, No vehicles.

Gymnastics

Today we did gymnastics, it was boring. we did what i have already done.
First we had to jump over a cone, forwards and backwards. Then we did some forwards rolls and backwards rolls. I did nothing that i new i could not do. I hope next week is better
